Loretta Lynn, course work and nerdism.

I was reading My Kind Of Country and I was once again reminded of the magnificence of Loretta Lynn. I will be honest, I own only two Loretta Lynn records – a compilation and the amazing Van Lear Rose.

It surprises me that reading one minor piece or watching one video can refocus your perspective on music and life in general. Five hours later my iTunes account is once again at $0.00 and I am enjoying my foray into the back catalog of an artist who I have never paid enough attention to.

As for Honours, I am completely engrossed in my course work at the moment. My priority at the moment is the Appalachian sound, place and space through the lens of subculture, scene and tribe theory.

Not to sound like a nerd, but communications theory when applied to country music is rather compelling. With that said, I can not wait to delve into the industry itself…that is when merriment will truly commence.
